Speaker Endorses Schuette for AG

Former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Newt Gingrich has endorsed Bill Schuette for Attorney General.

“I know Bill Schuette.  I served in Congress with Bill Schuette. Bill Schuette is a friend of mine.  And I am endorsing Bill Schuette for Attorney General because Bill understands a fundamental truth:  a prosperous future for Michigan starts by getting serious about fighting crime, and that means working with the police and prosecutors to keep families safe in their neighborhoods and children safe in their schools,” Gingrich said.

Gingrich and Schuette served together in Congress from 1985 through 1991. Newt Gingrich was the co-author of the Contract with America and the key architect in the Republican effort to recapture majority status in the 1994 elections, ending a period of 40 years in which the Democrats held the majority.  Gingrich served as Speaker of the House from 1995 to 1998.

“Newt Gingrich is the embodiment of bold solutions and strong leadership,” Schuette said.  “He understands that Michigan needs dramatic change. After eight years of failed leadership in Lansing, we cannot continue the status quo.  Our families deserve better.  And every family deserves safe schools and neighborhoods.  That’s why I’m running for Attorney General: to put public safety first.”
